Today, we organized a dinner and film screening at Buurthuis Boomspijker with our filmmakers. We showcased our films about freedom and shared stories about Turkmenistan, where freedom is virtually nonexistent. It was important to inform our Dutch guests about the reality in my country.
I shared insights about Turkmenistan, where the lack of freedom is profound. Under the current regime, basic human rights are severely restricted, and many people, especially women, face significant oppression. It is crucial to inform others about such situations and to appreciate the freedoms we often take for granted.
Our films highlighted human rights issues and the challenges faced by refugees in their home countries. These stories shed light on the struggles of those who are forced to flee their homes in search of safety and freedom. The discussions that followed emphasized the importance of human rights and the need for global solidarity.
During the event, I answered many questions and asked the audience, “What does freedom mean to you?” This prompted our guests to reflect deeply, realizing that they often overlook the full extent of their own freedom. This realization added a profound layer to our discussions.
Many thanks to our teachers and filmmakers, friends Alexander Moust and Lucienne Groot!
