The Hizmet Movement, initiated by Fethullah Gülen, is a civil society movement engaged in activities in areas such as education, dialogue, and humanitarian aid. The main aim of this movement is to promote tolerance, peace, and mutual understanding. The Hizmet Movement operates through educational institutions, dialogue centers, and charitable organizations worldwide.
Maklube is a dish closely associated with the Hizmet Movement. I first learned to cook it during my childhood in a student house affiliated with the Hizmet Movement. The feelings I experienced when I first cooked and shared maklube showed me the depth and significance of the culture of sharing and communal dining. Since then, I have been a part of this culture and joined the Hizmet Movement to uphold these values.
Unfortunately, today in Turkey, activities associated with the Hizmet Movement are labeled as terrorist activities. This situation has profoundly affected many people who are devoted to the Hizmet Movement, including myself. Even sharing a dish like maklube in Turkey can be perceived as a sign of allegiance to the Hizmet Movement, leading to serious consequences. This is one of the reasons I am in the Netherlands today, due to the challenges I faced in Turkey.
Maklube is not just a dish but a symbol of sharing, togetherness, and solidarity. While cooking and sharing this dish, I once again remembered the values of the Hizmet Movement and my belief in these values. It was a great honor and joy for me to share these values with the participants and provide information about the Hizmet Movement during this event.
The event we held at De Boomsspijker Community House not only introduced maklube and the Hizmet Movement but also highlighted the importance of sharing and being together. Such events are one of the best ways to introduce and understand different cultures and values. I hope that through this article, more people can learn about maklube and the Hizmet Movement, and we can spread these values to a broader audience.
As the LearnWithAyna.com family, we will continue to support events and articles that promote peace, tolerance, and mutual understanding.
